On December 5, 2023,CHAO Shihai, deputy director of the administration bureau of Three-River-Source National Park, and his delegation visited the School of Environment and Natural Resources and signed a strategic cooperation framework agreement. JIA Tieying, Secretary of the School Party Committee presided over the meeting, and the Party and government leadership teams, faculty and student representatives attended the discussion and signing ceremony.

On behalf of the School of Environment and Natural Resources, Prof. PANG Jun, Dean of the College of Environment, firstly expressed his warm welcome to the visit of CHAO Shihai and his delegation. Prof. PANG Jun introduced the achievements of the School in disciplinary construction, talent cultivation, academic research and social service, as well as the key areas of School's next disciplinary development.

He said that Three-River-Source National Park, as the first batch of national parks in China, is also the largest national park with the highest altitude and the richest alpine biodiversity. It has accumulated experience and provided a model for the national ecological civilization system and the construction of national parks, after more than five years of pilot exploration and more than two years of construction practice. In September 2023, a team of students and faculty from the School of Environment and Natural Resources went to Three-River-Source National Park for investigation and research, which was strongly supported by the administration bureau of Three-River-Source National Park and laid the foundation for cooperation between the two sides. The visit of CHAO Shihaiand his delegation will further promote in-depth cooperation between the two sides in the fields of national park institutional construction, biodiversity conservation, ecological asset management and ecological civilization education. The School is willing to work together with the administration bureau of Three-River-Source National Park to actively explore options for establishing a system of nature reserves in China with national parks as the mainstay.

CHAO Shihai introduced the pilot work of Three-River-Source National Park, and said that the administration bureau of Three-River-Source National Park will carry out comprehensive protection ,restoration and governance of the national park ecosystem in accordance with Three-River-Source National Park Master Plan, solidly and orderly promote monitoring and supervision, scientific and technological support, nature experience, harmonious community and other key construction tasks, to realize the unity of ecological protection, green development, and improvement of people’s livelihoods, and strive to make Three-River-Source National Park a shining business card for XI Jinping’s thought on ecological civilization to take root on the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau. CHAO Shihai expressed his hope that the School of Environment and Natural Resources of Renmin University of China would give full play to its disciplinary, talent and technical advantages, strongly support the work of the administration bureau of Three-River-Source National Park, and take the signing of the strategic cooperation framework agreement as a starting point to create a model of university-local cooperation.During the meeting, the two sides signed the Framework Agreement on Strategic Cooperation between the School of Environment and Natural Resources of Renmin University of China and the Administration Bureau of Three-River-Source National Park. Based on the agreement, the two sides will set up “Renmin University of China-Three-River-Source Science and Technology Cooperation and Social Practice Base” in Three-River-Source National Park. In addition, the two sides will also cooperate to carry out activities such as education and training of cadres and teaching practice for students in Three-River-Source National Park.

Before the meeting, CHAO Shihai and his delegation also visited the museum and library of Renmin University of China accompanied by JIA Tieying, the secretary of the school party committee, and LIU Shilei, a young teacher of the school.
